APPLICATION AND DESCRIPTION

RG58 armoured coaxial cable connects RF and communication equipment on indoor marine routes that require a 50 ohm cable. Its 21 AWG tinned copper centre conductor is formed from 19 strands, surrounded by PE insulation and a tinned copper braid screen. LSZH bedding separates the screen from the tinned copper braid armour. The finished LSZH-sheathed construction has a nominal overall diameter of 8.6 mm.

KEY FEATURES

  • 19/0.18 mm tinned copper centre conductor.

  • Separate braid screen and braid armour within an LSZH polyolefin construction.

  • Frequency-specific attenuation values support cable-length and equipment-loss calculations.

SELECTION NOTES

Check the permitted insertion loss at the highest operating frequency, including connectors and any other components in the route. Keep bends within the listed 15 times overall-diameter limit. Specify the armoured cable dimensions to the connector supplier and identify any shipboard approval or test-document requirement at enquiry stage.

RELATED CABLE TYPES

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is this RG58 conductor solid or stranded?

It is stranded tinned copper, with a listed construction of 19/0.18 mm.

What is the cable impedance?

The electrical table specifies 50±3 ohms.

How does this differ from the RG58/U cable linked below?

This page describes the marine armoured construction. The related RG58/U page lists a solid centre conductor, different dimensions and a different impedance tolerance range.

Does the braid screen replace the armour?

They are separate layers: the screen surrounds the dielectric, while the armour surrounds the LSZH bedding.

What limits the usable route length?

The equipment's allowable signal loss, operating frequency, connector losses and installation conditions determine the usable length. Use the attenuation values for this specific construction.
